Use of the mark

Who may use the marks

An organisation that holds a current DSI 001 result may refer to that result, for the system and scope assessed, while the result is within its validity window. Assessors authorised by Decision Standards Institute under the DSI 001 scheme may use the marks to describe the assessments they deliver, under the terms of their authorisation. No one else may use the marks to imply a DSI 001 result, authorisation, or endorsement.

How to display a result correctly

When referring to a result, state the tier, the assessed system or scope, and the issue date, and link to verify. For example: a named system is DSI 001 Compliant, issued [date], valid to [date].

A reference to a result must be tied to the specific system and scope assessed, and to a current result. It must make clear that the classification applies to that system, not to the organisation as a whole.

What is not permitted

• Using a mark for a system or scope that was not assessed, or extending a result beyond the scope it covers.
• Using a result after it has expired or been withdrawn, or without its date and status.
• Presenting a self-scored or indicative figure as a DSI 001 result.
• Altering the marks, or using them in a way that implies the Institute endorses the organisation or its products generally.
• Using a result to imply legal compliance, regulatory approval, insurability or creditworthiness.

Authorised assessors

Assessors authorised by Decision Standards Institute under the DSI 001 scheme use the marks under the terms of their authorisation, to describe the assessments they deliver. An assessor may not use the marks in a way that implies the Institute assesses, or that obscures the separation between the assessor and the standard.

Misuse

Misuse of the marks, including over-claiming a result, can be raised through the complaints and appeals process, and can result in withdrawal of permission to use the marks and, for an assessor, review of recognition.
